Rachel Watts of PC Gamer praised the world building of the Digital Kingdom, noting how the game used spirituality in the world. Narita Boy received 'mixed or average' reviews according to Metacritic, except for the PlayStation 4 version which received 'generally favorable' reviews. When discussing the game's mix of technology and natural environments the director added, ' I find beauty in the mix between organic and non-organic.' The game was initially set to launch in December 2018, but was delayed to Spring 2021. Eduardo Fornieles, Narita Boy's director, states that his childhood experiences in Spain and his time spent living in Japan influenced the story and the aesthetic of the game. Narita Boy was funded through Kickstarter in 2017, raising €160,946. Each Wild Fire ability also allows the player to summon one of three NPC companions to fight by the player's side in combat. They come in three different colors, which allows the player to do increased damage to enemies of the same color, but also decreases the player's resistance to attacks. Throughout Narita Boy, the player gains access to various abilities such as the Wild Fire attacks. Alongside these moves, the Techno Sword can be used as a shotgun as a high-damage attack. In combat, the player can also dodge, which avoids enemy attacks, and allows the player to get behind enemies. The player can do a standard melee attack by pressing a button, or hold it down in order to do a stronger attack. They have also confirmed that “the final amount raised will split equally between the three museums to continue and develop preservation projects.Combat revolves around using the game's Techno Sword in order to defeat enemies, called Stallions. A percentage of each sale made there will also going towards the campaign. Team17 and Studio Koba are also planning a digital charity event a little later on in Spring.

But let’s be honest, we wanted to be bopping to that as we do our house chores. Now we’ve all heard the absolutely outstanding Narita Boy soundtrack in trailers and as we were slashing away with the Techno Sword. It may sound a little soppy, but it’s an incredibly noble effort, and a very MVP move on their behalf. By partnering with The Strong: National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York, The National Videogame Museum in the UK, and Arcade Vintage: Museo del Videojuego in Spain, Team17 and Studio Koba are not only preserving an integral part of video game history but a lot of childhood memories. I have fond memories of playing some of the classic arcade games in my local cinema, and even the rare times my parents let me play them at the seaside arcades. It is all about helping to preserve arcade games and arcade amusements.
